The staff interpreter is an integral member of the CCCBSD Community. The staff interpreter has
the responsibility of supporting the interpreting needs of staff and students’ school-wide and is
an essential member of the educational team. The staff interpreter will interpret across a
multitude of student settings including but not limited to student therapies, community-based
outings, specials (i.e. gym, art, music, STEAM), field trips, IEP meetings etc. In addition, the
staff interpreter is responsible for providing high quality interpreting to all CCCBSD faculty and
staff. These assignments include, but are not limited to staff meetings, consultations with
therapists and related service providers, professional development, training, and any other
meetings assigned, including those by the Executive Director.
WHAT YOU’LL DO HERE:
The Staff Interpreter is responsible for each of the following:
1. Provide high quality interpreting services to staff and students at CCCBSD.
2. Interpret solo or teamed with interpreters such as ASL or Deaf Interpreters.
3. Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with administrators, teachers, staff,
parents, students, and visitors.
4. Apply the RID; Code of Professional Conduct both on and off campus at CCCBSD.
5. Exhibit an interest for self-improvement in signing ability, interpreting skills and
6. establishing a better understanding of the interpreting process by pursuing professional
development through workshops, training, and interpreter organizations.
7. Participate in self-evaluations as determined appropriate by the supervisor.
8. Perform other tasks as directed by the Supervisor.

 

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of three years of
experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Coursework in
interpreting, education, deaf education, special education, communication disorders, or
early-childhood preferred. Previous successful experience in an academic setting. Demonstrated
ability to respect diversity and help children develop a positive self-image as successful
learners.

? Ability to understand, follow and deliver safety policy and procedures.
? Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.

? Ability to receive professional direction, learn new skills, and work in a team setting.
? Knowledge of Deaf/HH culture, and special issues related to Deaf/HH students.
? Familiarity and experience interpreting for Atypical Language users and
Deaf/HH/Hearing individuals with additional challenges.

A qualified interpreter is defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act as one who can interpret
effectively, accurately, and impartially, both receptively and expressively, using any necessary
specialized vocabulary. The staff interpreter must have a certificate with a score of 3.5 or higher
on the Educational Interpreting Performance Assessment (EIPA).

 

In addition, the interpreter must also show evidence of at least two of the following:

1. National Interpreting Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).
2. Certificate or documentation from the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing (MCDHH) screening.
3. Transcript of completion of an interpreter training program from an accredited college or
university.
4. Documentation of successful experience as an educational interpreter (e.g., letters of
recommendation from school personnel, parents, and/or Deaf students).
